Which format is best for me?

Downloads are available in 320 MP3 and FLAC formats. If you're left wondering what a FLAC is, then you're most likely going to want 320MP3. These are the highest-quality MP3s you can get, they sound fantastic, and will be the most compatible with any hardware or software, including iTunes, Windows Media Player, your iPod, smartphone, etc.

FLAC on the other hand tends to be for the "audiophiles and nerds" of the Digiverse. Technically speaking, FLAC boasts a higher fidelity than 320MP3 but the difference is virtually undetectable, even to well-trained ears. And FLACs come at an additional cost... the files wind up being much larger than their MP3 counterparts, taking longer to download and using up more storage space on your favorite devices. And unlike the MP3 format, FLAC is not widely supported across today's hardware and software apps, so you best know what you're dealing with before committing to it.

How do I unzip my download?

When you download an album or live show from Village Produce, it arrives on your computer as one big file, in a compressed format known as zip. Before you can add the music inside this zip file to your library and listen to it, you'll need to decompress the zip file, or "unzip" it as it is commonly referred to. Doing so is very easy:

If you're on a Mac, double-click the file. You're done.

If you're on a PC, right-click the file and choose "Extract All..." and you're also done.

Don't see an "Extract All..." option? Try renaming the file to something simple, like "music.zip". The important thing is to make sure the name ends with a ".zip" extension. Then right-click it again. You should now see "Extract All..." in the menu. If you still don't see an Extract All... option, double-click the file. This will open a window listing the files inside. Press Ctrl+A to select all the files, then drag them into a folder or onto your desktop. This will extract them, for sure. What!? That doesn't work either? You may be amongst the elite few who simply don't have unzipping software built in to their PC. Not a problem, you can get it here.

There's an error with my zip file, what should I do?

If you're getting "invalid," "corrupt," or "archive empty" error messages when you attempt to unzip your download, they all mean the same thing: the downloaded file is incomplete, probably due to a hiccup with your internet connection. The first thing you should try is downloading the file again, making sure that (1) nothing else is downloading or streaming on your computer in the background, and (2) your browser window stays open until the file has completely finished downloading. These zip files can be very large, so if you're on a wireless device/network you should definitely try plugging in directly if you can. This will give you the fastest and most reliable connection possible. You can verify that your download is complete by (on a PC) right-clicking it and selecting "Properties" or, (on a Mac) by clicking it and choosing File > Get Info. The size should match the file size indicated on your account downloads page.
